2011 Ad Nauseam
for High School Social Science, Statistics, Business
Faculty and Their Students

December 2011/January 2012

To All High School Faculty and Students:

It is our distinct pleasure to cordially extend an invitation to all high school faculty and their students to participate in the 26th Annual UDM and Annual High School "Super Bowl Ad Nauseum" program. Super Bowl Ad Nauseam is an event that gives students the opportunity to learn about the business, cultural, marketing and advertising side of the Super Bowl.

During the Super Bowl XLVI (2/5/12), high school students will be asked to rate network Super Bowl ads as popularized by USA Today's Ad Meter. At noon the next day generalized results from our Superbowl Ad Nauseam study will be presented at a Pizza, Pop, Pretzel and Press Party for the print and electronic media. Local high school students (nominated by their instructors) and their faculty will be invited to attend the Party at the University of Detroit Mercy. At this time, the media will be encouraged to interview students regarding their ratings and comments about the Super Bowl ads.

Program Events

Advertising Modules: This year's high school Super Bowl Ad Nauseam program includes expanded the high school educational offerings which include a number of non-Super Bowl modules. The new modules include teaching resources and brief videos regarding the the domestic and global economy. We think these modules are logical "prequels" to Super Bowl Ad Nauseam, although they also may be used as "sequels", "stand alones" or in any order a faculty member desires.

Ad Nauseam Lectures: A series of brief lectures are offered about the Super Bowl, its ads, its impact and its value as cultural, economic and advertising / marketing phenomena. An tutorial on ad evaluation also is available. This tutorial will help prepare students to be able to evaluate all ads, particularly the remarkable Super Bowl ads.

Super Bowl Survey: Participants will watch the Super Bowl and rate the network Super Bowl ads that appear throughout the game. Upon completion of the game, students will enter their results into an online survey. To participate in the Super Bowl Ad Nauseam Survey, please visit America's Marketing High School (www.americasmarketinghighschool.org) and register. Additional information and instructions are provided under the "Projects" link.

Pizza, Pop, Pretzel & Press Party: From noon to 1pm on SB Monday/Water Cooler Monday (February 6, 2012) Super Bowl Ad Nauseam's survey results will be announced and compared to those of USA Today's "Ad Meter". These results will be discussed using a best/worst ads format. Poll highlights will include gender and grade differences. There will be a specific emphasis given to auto-related ads. All high school faculty whose students participate in the online poll will receive complete and final results of the poll for their own classroom usage. The Pizza, Pop, Pretzel & Press Party will be streamed live via www.mistreamnet.org from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. EST and will be archived for later review within classrooms.

Mike-roscope Newsletter : Additionally, each high school teacher that participates in the Super Bowl Ad Nauseam School will have the option of receiving an email subscription to Under the Mike-roscope at no cost. It is an advertising and marketing newsletter published by Professor Bernacchi. In its 22nd year of publication, 65 - 80 issues are available each year. The Mike-roscope applies marketing to every imaginable and contemporary venue. Several Scopes involving last year's Super Bowl and all current issues are available at America's Marketing High School.

Research Paper Contest: All students that participate in the Super Bowl Survey will be eligible to compete in a research paper contest about a month after the Super Bowl. Teachers will be able to create a classroom research paper contest regarding the Super Bowl by using America's Marketing High School's topic and grading rubric.

Thank you, for your time and consideration!
